Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

I’ve been saying for years that Capitalism is not the best solution. One of the definitions of capitalize is to take advantage of. No economy that’s based on the better deal going to the better negotiator is going to be sustainable. We’re already propping up corporations and organizations falsely because they are deemed too big to fail. But, Capitalism is the best solution we have right now.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez made comments about how bad Capitalism is. She made good points similar to mine. She also went as far as calling our current system, garbage. Which is completely disrespectful to the founding fathers of our country. Here is where her and I differ in our opinions. She believes in idealistic utopias. She’s only 29 years old and doesn’t know what she doesn’t know. While I’m only 42, much happens in your 30’s. She believes the United States should turn Socialist. I believe Socialism has been proven to not be the answer. The answer is a solution that has not been announced yet. It might be found, but has not come to the right hands. I will explain why Ocasio Cortez should look to the future and not the past when searching for the Utopia of humanity.

My biggest issue with Cortez is that she’s looking backwards. We have countless examples of why Socialism does not work. I respect many Socialist countries. I spent three weeks in Edinburgh, Scotland. I saw next to zero homeless and almost everyone I worked with owned a home. But, wages are extremely low there and taxes are very high. There are advantages to making less than a certain amount. I remember it being 50 thousand dollars a year. I might be off some, it doesn’t change the point. If you make above 50k you are taxed at an extremely high rate. You’re motivating people to only make a certain amount. Capitalism allows you to take advantage of your abilities to make as much as you can. There are taxes, but not at the 50% rate similar to socialist countries like Canada and Scotland.

I believe the answer to be something that has not been implemented yet. I love free commerce. Being able to do business from anywhere to anywhere. Giving someone in one country an equal opportunity to compete with someone in another country equally? Nothing wrong there. Now enter capitalism. Any way that one entity can block another entity in selling to another entity while also taking advantage of both entities, that’s capitalism. What if both selling entities submitted a best offer solution to the buying entity? The buying entity can evaluate and then select the best offer. Creating competition while also creating an equal playing field. Why not create a win win environment? Instead, one company is allowed to fail because it didn't protect it's intellectual property well enough. While another company like General Motors is deemed to big to fail and is bailed out. In reality, companies like GM should be left alone and if it fails we endure the consequences. Same for banks. In the 90s a law was put into place allowing people to buy a home without income verification. This directly led to the housing crash of 2008. Banks were giving out loans knowing that many of them would fail. They were getting commissions and living the good life. Then, when the collapse happened these banks were bailed out by the government. Many of them using the money to give the same people large bonuses. After they had sold the loans to smaller banks knowing they would fail, or allowing families to lose their home. Basically rewarding the people that should not  have been giving the loans in the first place.

Alexandria Cortez is naive about the complexity of most things she talks about. She often gives opinion as though it is fact. Talking about how with her plan we can eliminate emissions in 10 years. That is a fallacy. Fact is that climate change is constant. The only thing constant is change, common knowledge. Her believing she has the power to change the climate is arrogant and naive. We may be speeding the process up as a species, but dinosaurs proved that you can simply exist and still the climate will change. Each time the climate has changed quickly. While we should not be using plastic, fossil fuels, natural gas as much as we do? It's arrogant to believe we have the power to control the earth and it's climate. It's existed much longer than we have and has it's own plan. Cortez has attacked the American way of life while completely ignoring the fact that she would need the cooperation of the entire world to be successful.

While I admire Cortez for her boldness. She's completely disrespecting the intelligence of others by assuming she's brilliant. Does she think she's the first to think of these things? She can't even control her own staff. Her chief of staff has already been caught funneling money from campaign contributions to private companies owned by her chief of staff. No wonder he didn't mind having his salary cut in half. He's making money on the back end by fraud. She should take some time and learn her job first. While social programs have flaws, instead of calling everyone racist she should speak of solutions. Too many people want to criticize and complain. They spend so much of their time condemning so much. But, they spend so little time discussing their solution. Her solution is to stop flying and rid the earth of cow flatulence. You want to earn respect Cortez? How about you outline how as a species we can make the world better. We want to see details. Or, it'll be another Obama who spoke big but achieved little. Another politician that enjoys hearing herself speak. Who get people all riled up but in the end has no idea how to accomplish these goals.
