My View on Politics
I've always been a person that likes dialogue. In my life I want to keep my mind open to learning through experiences, education, and dialogue. How can we learn or consider different points of views if we don't discuss it? But, it's my belief that one thing that has disappeared from politics is discussion. It is now politically incorrect to talk about politics. People get upset during discussions about politics. Many refuse to even consider other people's points of views. And, there are so many people in this country that a two party system is too simplistic to represent everyone's views.
I'm no expert. I am not a transcendent person in society. I am not gifted in any way. The only thing that I believe I possess that other people are lacking is an open mind. I try to never get upset by someone else's views. I want to be able to listen to someone's view on a subject and not judge. I want to understand where they're coming from and respect their opinion. That's what it is, an opinion. We should all be allowed to have one. But that's the part that has disappeared. No longer do we allow someone else to have their opinion. Instead, we name call and berate anyone who does not share our view on politics. We stick to our parties while distancing ourselves from other points of view. We avoid discussing politics at work, parties, public, etc. We're too afraid that the conversation will get complicated and someone will criticize us for our opinion.
The reason I believe I can have these conversations without getting upset is because of my open mind. While I support the Republican party right now, I have voted democrat before. Including voting for Barack Obama. Even though I voted for Donald Trump I believe I still have the ability to listen to peoples views who voted for Hillary Clinton or others. I believe that once we look more in depth into situations and opinions we agree on more than we disagree on. Although I never liked Donald Trump at all in my life, once it was between him and Hillary for President of the United States my mind was decided.
The other reason I believe I can discuss and tolerate people with other political view points is because I don't dwell. Once Trump was our President I hoped for the best. If he had been found to have committed crimes then I would make an assessment at that point. But, while he is President I will hope for the best the same way I did with Obama. Just because Trump took advantage of tax laws and other things does not mean he will be a bad president. By being optimistic instead of pessimistic I believe I am able to stay objective. So many have already condemned Trump and all of his supporters based on their feelings about him. Almost the entire democratic party, CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo, etc have declared a political war on Trump. Spending a majority of their time working to change the perception of anything he does. At no point will they ever admit any positive impact he may have on the country or world. On a day that he was in Vietnam the democrats decided to question his lawyer Cohen for hours on live tv. This completely embarrasses our entire country.
I cannot in my good conscience support the democratic party as a whole for the way they are acting. I cannot consume myself in negativity and hate. While I don't agree with the parties recent turn to hard core liberal socialist agenda. While I would love to see free college for all and free medical for all, that's not realistic. If a candidate shows me how they will do it then let's talk. Bernie Sanders had many idealistic suggestions. But, he had no solutions. Tell me how you plan on doing it. Mitt Romney also did not want to discuss his plans for being President. I could not vote for him. I believe I was fooled by the smooth talking Obama but I still believe Romney was not the answer. I try to stay objective and open minded.
